Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Fourth Grade is a pivotal year in a student's educational journey, characterized by a focus on advanced literacy and mathematics skills. It's a stage where students are encouraged to read novels and deepen their understanding of language while also delving into more complex mathematical concepts. The curriculum is designed to support a well-rounded education, with an emphasis on both core subjects and special classes.
In Fourth Grade, the English Language Arts (ELA) program focuses on honing advanced literacy and writing skills. Students engage in reading novels, which allows them to explore more complex narratives and develop their comprehension and critical thinking abilities. Teachers employ literacy resources that are meticulously aligned with the Science of Reading, ensuring that students receive instruction grounded in research-based methods that support their reading and writing fluency and comprehension.
Mathematics education in Fourth Grade advances further, with students exploring more complex mathematical concepts. The curriculum continues to rely on Everyday Math, a comprehensive math program, and is enriched with SpringMath, a program designed to sharpen math skills. Just like in previous grades, the math program maintains alignment with the Science of Math to provide students with a strong mathematical foundation.
Fourth Grade students continue to take LinkIt! benchmark tests, which serve the dual purpose of monitoring their academic progress and providing valuable data for teachers to tailor instructional strategies that cater to the individual needs of each student. This data-driven approach ensures that all learners receive the necessary support to excel.
In Fourth Grade, students have two different teachers to ensure specialization and expertise in core subject areas. This division allows one teacher to focus on English Language Arts and Social Studies, while the other concentrates on Math and Science. This approach ensures a high-quality education in each discipline.
As in previous years, students continue to explore the fascinating worlds of Science and Social Studies, deepening their understanding of the world and developing critical thinking skills.
Fourth Grade students also have the opportunity to enjoy special classes in library, art, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics), music, and physical education. These classes provide a holistic educational experience that fosters creativity, physical fitness, and a love for learning beyond the core subjects.
Fourth Grade is a year of significant growth and development, preparing students for more advanced learning in the future. The curriculum's alignment with the Science of Reading and the Science of Math ensures that students receive a research-based and effective education. This grade encourages students to become not only proficient readers and writers but also confident problem solvers, critical thinkers, and well-rounded individuals, setting them on a path to academic success and personal growth.
